Suzie's For The Soldiers

suzies-band.JPG

Susie’s Bar & Grill played host July 18 to a loud fund-raiser benefiting the Colorado Veterans of Foreign Wars (Post 501) Foundation For Wounded Soldiers. But it wasn’t loud for the reasons you might think.

Sure, there were motorcycles there, and yeah, they made some noise. The real sound, though, was good ol’ rock & roll.

“We had six bands playing here all day,” explained party princess Ginger Crews. Things stated about 11am and the music didn’t stop until 7 at night.”

For the past few months McSwane’s 285 roadhouse has slowly but surely been building a reputation for good food and good times. So, McSwane’s put together their First Annual Nut Run on June 13.

The run was organized to start from several different locations around Denver, Colorado springs and even woodland Park.

Mile High Bug Run--Tape, Bugs & Good Times

bug run'09.JPG

Way back in the year 2000, when Mile High Harley-Davidson was still fairly new to Colorado, the Mile High H.O.G. Chapter decided they wanted to have a nice putt out on the eastern plains. To make it interesting, the group put a piece of tape on the headlamps of their bikes and took off. Whoever came back with the most bugs on their tape was thee winner.

And so the tradition was born. That ride has evolved into one of the biggest single day motorcycle events in the Denver metro area each year.

It seems like they’ve been around forever, but that’s what happens when a decent bike shop opens up and takes care of its customers. In reality, American Motorcycles in Colorado Springs has been a force in the local market for five years.

“We literally started five years ago with $1000 and a tool box in Brett O’Conner’s garage,” said Eric Reed, co-owner of American Motorcycles. “Five years later we’re still at it, and it’s mostly because our customers have stuck with us. So, we decided to do this for them…and we got rocked.”
