Maybe it was the unseasonably warm weather. Perhaps it was because last year’s run was essentially cancelled. Or, it could have just been that Christmas is coming, and bikers have a soft spot for kids in general at the holidays, especially those cooped up in the hospital for health reasons.

It was probably all three reasons, and any number of others, that combined to make the 2012 Toy Run to Children’s Hospital on December 2, 2012, one of the largest, and loudest, in the 27-year history of the event.

More than 100 people on riding motorcycles decked out in holiday décor launched the holiday giving season November 25th by riding in the annual 2-Wheelers/Stan’s Signs Toy Run.

Santa’s leather-clad helpers gathered at 2-Wheelers Motorcycle Shop in Northwest Denver, milling around sipping coffee and waiting for the group to get larger.

The group did get bigger, too.

Colorado Springs’ relatively new Wind & Fire MC Chapter 36 wanted to do something good, but different. So, they came up with a plan. They would collect food and other goodies to help provide Thanksgiving dinner for some folks who might go without otherwise…but with a twist.

If you weren’t at Bitchn Stitchn Saturday night October 27, well, you just weren’t dead.

You missed a hell of a party, too.

The annual Night Of The Living Dead/Zombie /Halloween/Go Like Hell party hosted by the custom seat fabrication shop, didn’t disappoint. Owners Dan Ballard and his gruesome, yet remarkably gracious and friendly zombie bride Leslie, made sure the walking dead were everywhere…and living it up, too.

It seems no matter where it’s held; Oktoberfest seems to turn out to be a pretty good time for everyone who makes the effort to be a part of it.

That certainly was the case October 20th, when The Werkes Motorcycle Shop held their first annual Oktoberfest in Lakewood.

“This was really our first event,” explained Donna Sorenson. “We wanted to have a little party to thank our customers, meet new people and have a great time. Everything went great. We got lucky with the weather, and we had a good crowd. We had a great time.”

The weather threatened to be ugly on October 7th for the 25th Annual High Country Toy Run. But, after a cool start to the morning, generous Colorado sunshine warmed things up nicely, bringing out bunches of bikes, bikers and bundles of gifts.

It wasn’t looking good for the Colorado Springs Breast Cancer Awareness Ride on the morning of October 6th. Winter had been making its entrance for a couple days with a little snow coming down from the high country, and temperatures that were more than a little chilly in town. The morning of the 6th looked none too promising as far as riding motorcycles and raising money for breast cancer was concerned.

Things were looking downright grim.

Cannon Fire Credit...

We sorta screwed the pooch last month when we ran this photo as part of our Vet’s Rally coverage. We failed to give credit to the photographer who captured this shot at the Cripple Creek War Memorial ceremony, Danny Barton. Danny let us use this photo of 75mm Pack Mountain Howitzers firing a 21-gun salute. We figure giving him credit is the least we can do, after all, it’s a cool photo, and Danny lost his hearing getting it. There are lots more photos from Cripple Creek in the gallery section.

Something happened overnight on September 29th along US HWY 285 through Turkey Creek Canyon and up to Bailey, Colorado. Autumn’s march out of the high country down to the lower elevations, changing colors of the landscape as it goes continued as it has for millennia.

But overnight on the 29th, another color appeared. Pink. Pink appeared the morning of September 30th, glowing in the sun along that particular stretch of highway as it has every year for seven years.

Tennyson Street For The Tennyson Center

Tennyson Street just north of 38th Avenue in Denver was the site of what might be the beginnings of a great event to benefit the Tennyson Center For Children.

Hosted by the Berkeley Bar, “Tennyson Street For Tennyson Center” saw the lot at Elitch Lanes packed with incredible show cars as Detroit heavy metal fans wandered among them, while across the street at the Berkeley Bar a little party in conjunction with the show percolated.
