A person can’t help but think that the annual Emily’s Parade is truly a blessed event.

As if to make that point, the gray cold wet and dreary skies that draped themselves over much of Colorado the week before the September 26 motorcycle ride, vanished overnight. What was left was a warm gorgeous day, perfect for riding a motorcycle into the mountains.

So that’s what around 2000 people did.

Despite the cold and the threat of rain on September 13th, over 150 bikes and more than 200 participants turned out help make the Fall 2009 Bikers United For America (BUFA) Run a huge success. While there were a few actual sprinkles, the droplets did nothing to dampen rider enthusiasm on this noble charity run through Colorado Springs.

Bikini Contest In The Cold

Dreary skies, cool temperatures and a few raindrops couldn’t put a halt to the activities at the Freedom Harley-Davidson open house September 12, 2009.

The Lakewood dealership used the occasion to roll out the new 2010 models, have a little party, and parade of beauties in bikinis.

“The weather didn’t cooperate with us,’ said Freedom H-D spokesman Bill Cahal. “We still had about 750 people come out and have a good time.”

The Hideout might be the best little seasonal biker bar in Colorado. In keeping with that, Jerry Wolcott at the Hideout hosted a Labor Day Weekend Kick Off Party Friday September 4th.

“We’re only open part of the year,” said Wolcott. ‘It creates a different atmosphere. So we wanted to use that to have a warm-up party to get Labor Day Weekend started right.”

It was a full house, as the lot was full of bikes, and the bar full of bikers. It sure seemed like the weekend was getting off to a good start.

Pimps and Ho’s roaming around town are usually considered a problem. Not in Denver on September 12, though.

The inaugural Pimp & Ho Run brought out about 100 or so pimps and their ho’s for a ride around Denver. Dressed in their best inner city nasties, riders piled into the Platte River Grill to sign up and get started.

“We had about 70 bikes sign up,” said run organizer John Cusumano. “We were expecting more, but the weather didn’t cooperate with us. That’s OK, we still had fun. A lot of people dressed up and got into it.”

There really is nothing a biker likes more than a hot summer day with clear skies. The call of the road—and sunburn is irresistible. Until the call of the dark, air-conditioned strip bars is clearly heard.

It’s funny how time flies. It seems that it was only a couple years ago that the dream of creating a ride unique to Colorado became reality in the form of the 5-in-1 ride. Can it really be ten years already?

Hawgs For Hounds In Teller County

By Joe Maher

It was all about the bark. Barking Hawgs, and barking dogs.

So, with the sound of barking in everyone’s mind, the 7th Annual Hawgs for Hounds ride, supporting the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter (TCRAS) took place July 22nd.

The Hawgs gathered at the Mill Hill Saloon in Colorado Springs to sign up, grab their first card and get ready for what would be a great day of riding to support the Hounds. For those a little hungry, or wanting to ward off the chill of the morning, a great biscuits and gravy was available and taken advantage of by many.
