The wasn’t a lot of snow, but it was still sorta on the chilly side—just enough to remind everyone that it’s winter…perfect for the American Iron MC of Colorado Springs to hold their 6th Annual Winter Sucks Party & Pig Roast at the Shovelhead Saloon in Fountain on Saturday, January 22nd.
This is the sixth year for the sometimes bawdy, and always fun, event. In fact, the Annual Winter Sucks party is usually the first biker event of the year in the Colorado Springs area—sometimes in the state. First or not, it was a lot of fun again this year.
This party just points out what we all know already--that winter sucks. Sure, we’d all rather be riding big miles, but a fact of life in Colorado is that usually doesn’t happen in January. Therefore, Winter Sucks. Embrace it. So, a crowd of a couple hundred or so fun-loving, good-time-seeking biker types piled in to Shovelheads and the party was on.
The Jinx band put down a rockin’ soundtrack for the day, while the saloon quickly filled up with lots of fun, and the pig began to vanish.
Already a symbol for the event, a wooden, carved snowman, with “Winter Sucks” cut into the belly was on hand to oversee all the happy activity. Bill Fee from The Nature of Things Chainsaw Art donates the carving.
The food was tasty, the libations flowed freely, and there was plenty of fun to be had. Being the first event of the year, the party got everyone off on the right foot, and planted the seed for the coming riding season, which might be here sooner than anyone thought if the current weather patterns hold. As it was, the roads were clear enough for a few riders, and it wasn’t that cold, either. But, it’s still winter, and in case you missed it—Winter Sucks, but the party certainly didn’t….
