One of the best summer parties in Lakewood, Colorado is the annual hog roast put on by Dino’s Custom Cycles every July.
And on July 25th, Dino’s 11th Annual Hog roast and party kept that tradition alive.
“I don’t know how many people we had here,” said Ruben Guerra, from Dino’s. “I know it was a lot. We went through our usual ten kegs of beer in a few hours again, so I guess that means there were quite a few people here having a good time.”
On top of the suds, every bit of a 150-pound pig, 18 quarter-hinds, 100 hot dogs, 30 cases of water and a bunch sides and deserts were all consumed during the afternoon.
But it wasn’t all about food and beer. There was an exhibition of boxing and ultimate fighting put on by Airtight Boxing and House Of Pain.
The fights were real popular,” Guerra said. “They started out fighting when the band took a break, but it wasn’t long before they had their own schedule going and were doing their own thing. It was great. Everybody dug on it.”
As for the band, the new incarnation of Joe For Nuthin’ was on hand again, laying down a rockin’ soundtrack for the day. One of the highlights was when 19-year-old Dominique Montano, a drummer, confidently announced that she could play everything the band was playing. Well, her bluff was called, and the band was convinced to let Dominique sit in for a set. The little fireball literally didn’t skip a beat, and jumped in. playing the skins like a pro. It sounded great, especially considering she had never played with the boys in the band before.
Again the crowd loved it.
“She kicked some ass,” Guerra said. “She’s pretty good and wasn’t afraid get in there and rock. Everyone loved it.”
All the while, there was the coming and going of motorcycles. After all, this was a party at a bike shop. The hundreds of bikes on display joined the impressive display rolled out by Dino’s to created a sparkling sea of polished steel and chrome. Of course, even with all the entertainment, bikers tend to make their own entertainment, so the obligatory impromptu burnouts go going, along with other biker fun.
“This party is just a way for us to let everyone know we’re still here, and that we appreciate people doing business with us,” Guerra said. “We’ve been doing it for eleven years now, and we always have fun, so I’m sure we’ll do it again next year.”
This year, money raised at the party and hog roast will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Lakewood. Guerra said he expects a good-sized donation will be made to the charity.
As nice as it was to be helping out the Boys and Girls club, the other ac of generosity touched just about everyone there.
Dino’s and rocky Mountain Wellness center teamed up to donate a power wheel chair to two wheelchair-bound young ladies from the neighborhood. The two girls are friends and roommates, and determined they would share the fancy, do-everything chair as they needed. When word of that decision spread, several people decided to step up and help get a second chair, so each girl would have her own.
“That was pretty cool,” Guerra said. “There are a couple people working to get another char so each of these girls can have her own chair. We didn’t expect that; but I think it’s great.”
Overall, it was another great party at Dino’s.
“We had perfect weather, not too hot, no rain…perfect,” Guerra said. “We’ve been fortunate. We’re able to have this party for people to bring their families if they want and have good time, something to eat and hang out with friends. We didn’t have any problems again, and everyone had a good time. That’s what it’s all about.”
