Denver Builder Makes National Cover

Colorado bike builders continue to make their mark in the world of motorcycle customization. The latest to be recognized nationally is DJ, from Str8 Customs in Arvada, Colorado.

The 1996 fat Boy DJ altered last may for Lee Archuleta landed on the cover of the May 2010 issue of Hot Bike magazine, and is one of the featured builds inside.
“This is my first cover,” DJ said. “I like it. I’ve been getting a lot of calls. It’s really a good compliment.”

DJ stretched the Fat Boy and turned it into a bagger, without really making it a full-blown touring bike. A fancy paint job with Planet Color’s Hot Lips Red and a bunch of fabrication make Archuleta’s Fat Bot a real head turner. Pick up a copy to read about everything that went into the four week revamp.

DJ knew the bike was going to be featured, but didn’t know when, and he didn’t know about the cover shot.

“They called me in the first part of September about using the bike,” DJ said. “We did the photo shoot at the end of September, and then I didn’t really hear anything for a while. Then I found out it would be in the May issue. The cover is something I didn’t really expect. It’s pretty cool though.

DJ has been working in various shops in the Denver area for several years, and opened his own shop, Str8 Customs at 5626 Newland Way in Arvada two years ago.

Congratulations to DJ.
