Santa's Big Red Sled!

That Santa makes his rounds in a high-flying sleigh is pretty common knowledge. But Biker kids know the real story. The jolly old elf actually makes his Christmas Eve deliveries on a fine candy-cane red Harley. Of course, that Harley is outfitted with a sidecar to hold all the presents Santa has to haul around, and, he’s got to have room for a favorite helper, too.

That’s why this sled is special. In addition to all the creature comforts the 2002 Firefighter Special Edition UltraClassic provides Santa, the bike is outfitted with a California Friendship III double-wide sidecar—perfect for hauling around lots of presents and a cute helper.

Santa’s helper this year is Tracy, a grown up elf with a lot of enthusiasm for the holidays. When she found out Santa wanted her to show off the rig, she promptly crawled into her best Christmas outfit and began practicing different poses. It looks to us like she’s got the posing part figured out, and we’re pretty sure she’s a good helper, too.

When Santa isn’t using the Ultra and side-hack, he lets Boulder resident Eric Sondeen ride this fine machine. A member of Wind & Fire MC, Sondeen uses the rig year-round to support club activities like the Burn Camp Run the Children’s Hospital Toy Run. The bike can also be seen at Patriot Guard Rider functions, kids medical charities, and Disabled Veteran events.

As much use as this bike gets, it truly is a Christmas bike. The side-hack is an eBay acquisition from a disabled vet in Kansas City Missouri. When Davy Jones heard the rig was destined to be used for kids at children’s Hospital and other firefighter charities, he drove it all the way to Colorado filled with new stuffed toys for the hospital.

Because the sidecar was originally silver and black, it was decided the color scheme would have to change. Denver Firefighters and North Bear Automotive volunteered the paint and labor to match up the color to the Firefighter Special Edition paint job on the 02 Ultra. When the sidecar came back from the painter, it was again stuffed full of toys for Children’s Hospital, along with a cash donation for the Burn Camp.

So, now you know the story of Santa’s Sled. Don’t listen for the sound of reindeer hooves on the roof this year, listen for the rumble of a Big Twin…it means presents are on the way!

There’s a pretty good chance that unless you’ve been really, really, really good, Tracy won’t be helping Santa deliver presents to your house this year. But that’s only because she’ll be busy spreading Christmas cheer at the Piper, where she can regularly be found serving up libations and smiles.
