Hawgs For Hounds In Teller County
By Joe Maher
It was all about the bark. Barking Hawgs, and barking dogs.
So, with the sound of barking in everyone’s mind, the 7th Annual Hawgs for Hounds ride, supporting the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter (TCRAS) took place July 22nd.
The Hawgs gathered at the Mill Hill Saloon in Colorado Springs to sign up, grab their first card and get ready for what would be a great day of riding to support the Hounds. For those a little hungry, or wanting to ward off the chill of the morning, a great biscuits and gravy was available and taken advantage of by many.
As the riders signed up and at each stop, there were adoptable, and sometimes barking, hounds for riders to visit with and shower with affection--and consider taking home with them. First up was a trip up the hill (HWY 24) into Woodland Park at the historic Ute Inn. While a little cool coming up the hill, the clouds had broken providing a everyone with a great ride continuing up HWY 24 to 67 to 81 an into Victor for the third card at Sally’s. From there, the great weather and Colorado scenery continued as the riders took HWY 67 through Cripple Creek to TC1 enroute to the Thunderbird in Florissant. With the rain still holding off, the fifth card and after ride party were waiting at the Crystola Bar and Grill. Once here, the riders were able to enjoy some BBQ on the back deck, a raffle full of prizes, the winning card had and of course the enjoyment of each other’s company and of course knowing they were there to helping our four legged furry friends.
It was a great ride on a great day for a great cause. The rain held off almost until the sweep arrived, but most riders were able to stay dry and enjoy the festivities. More information on TCRAS can be found at www.tcrascolorado.com or by calling (719) 686-7707.
